Before we go any further, I thought it might be handy for everyone to have a look at the floorplan for my house. I will be talking a lot about the “back room”, (which is described as the dining room in the floorplan), the study area, (which is the small space off the dining room) and so on. Such descriptions can be a little confusing and I love a floorplan as a means to explain everything in the description.
So, you enter my property through a very large and imposing wooden gate. This, coupled with the very high hedges, means that my property is very private. The front garden is about 6 meters wide and four meters deep. Upon coming through the front door the stairs are to your left, the living room to the right, and the kitchen straight ahead. Walking through the kitchen leads you to the back room with the study off it, and with the utility room off it, and with the doors to the back garden. While I describe it as a utility room, because it houses the dishwasher and washing machine (and a swathe of tools), it also contains a lavatory and sink, so is described on the floorplan as a WC. The back room is a bit of a corridor, as is the kitchen, and I dislike corridor rooms, so at some point, I intend to knock down walls and make this whole back space more integrated.
Upstairs, are two bedrooms and the bathroom. Both the bedrooms are a good size, but the bathroom is tiny. There is also a hatch to the loft, but the hatch is tiny and there are no ladders that reach it properly, so the best I could do was floor around the hatch, and stuff as much as I could into this space. At some point, I’ll get the loft floored and a decent ladder put in. Then I’ll be able to hoard to my heart is content.
So there we have it. Hopefully now, when I talk about the back room or the study, you’ll have a better idea of where these rooms are within the house.
